In an exclusive interview with Travel and Tour World, Ms. Kazuko Toda, Director, Convention Marketing Department of Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau (TCVB) reveals Tokyo’s success story as an all-round destination and TCVB’s role in promoting the city as a major tourist and business hub of Asia.

TTW – Where Tokyo Convention and Visitors Bureau plan to exhibit in the next year?

Ms Kazuko Toda : TCVB is exhibiting at the following tradeshows – IMEX Frankfurt and IMEX America, CIBTM and IT&CM China.

 

TTW – What are the attractive incentive options available at present?

Ms Kazuko Toda : A wide variety of programs are available. The followings are some team building ideas.

Sushi Making- experience team-building Japanese style

At indoor venue with kitchen facilities, small groups make Sushi Rolls by themselves after seeing instructor’s demonstration. They will be scored by work, layout and presentation. This very unique experience provides the fun and sense of unity. Moreover, they will taste the best sushi they have ever tasted.
City Hunt- explore Tokyo with your mission

A team needs to complete the mission by taking subway in Tokyo. Missions are ,for instance, include, going to specified shrine, taking photo under the gate, drawing fortune paper, ascending Tokyo Tower and getting the certificate, etc. They need to return to the starting point within 4 hours by using subway pass. The program covers dual purpose of team-building and sightseeing.

 

TTW: Tell us about the new convention centres and hotels set to open in the coming years?

Ms Kazuko Toda : We have a plethora of plans lined up for the future. Here are a few of them:

JP TOWER Hall and Conference: JP TOWER Hall and Conference will open in JP TOWER building in front of Tokyo Central Station in March 2013.

Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo : Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo will start self-management of the hotel from January 1, 2013, upon conclusion of the contract with Four Seasons. Chinzanso is already well-known as unique venue for reception, parties and events for its beautiful Japanese garden, wide range of meeting rooms and Japanese hospitality. A new one-of-a –kind facility, Serenity Garden, occupying 16,145 square feet (1,500 square meters), is on the rooftop of the hotel.

TTW: What are your other future plans and how do you intend to implement them?

Ms Kazuko Toda : Tokyo Metropolitan Government will set ‘5-year Tourism Plan’ starting from 2013 and the city government is promoting business events as one of 6 main pillars in the plan. The government will focus on Association Meeting and provides various support programs including subvention.
