COUNTRY FOCUS

Brunei

Content Image InlineBrunei is one of the tiniest countries in the world, housing some of the largest oil fields in Southeast Asia and understandably one of the wealthiest rulers on earth. The last remnants of an empire that once included all of Borneo and the southwest Philippines; the country boasts some of the most intact primary rainforests in all of Borneo. A relaxed and charming little corner of Borneo, this country has enough attractions to make it an interesting stop between Sabah and Sarawak.

Ireland

Content Image InlineShamrocks, shillelaghs, leprechauns, adorable rogues, multiple shades of green, yes, it’s Ireland – the country that is filled with treasures. From the lonely, wind-lashed wilderness to the picture-postcard harbour villages, hiking the hills, countless medieval castles and early Christian monasteries to the powerful political murals – Ireland has them all. The land of Joyce and Yeats, U2 and the Undertones is filled with top-notch restaurants, party-on pubs and a foot-stomping live-music scene. Ireland is truly a tourist’s paradise.

CITYSCAPE

Beirut

Content Image InlineBeirut, often called the ‘Paris of the East’, is a city that has been rebuilt several times and has a reputation of being the crossroads of three continents and gateway to the East. It is one of the few places in the world where modern architecture shares space with the relics of Ottoman structures. Beirut is a city that speaks a lot of things at the same time. It is a city with a tragic history, of triumph over disaster, of living for the moment. To some, it’s a capital of terror; to others, it is the field of liberty.

Frankfurt

Content Image InlineFrankfurt, often called Main-hattan (due to the similarity of its skyline to that of Manhattan’s) and Frankfurt am Main, is a metropolis over 2000-year-old and is characterised by compelling contradictions. The traditional and the modern, business and culture, big-city commotion and peaceful havens all exist here. In nightlife too, it is vibrant, especially when it comes to the dance-music scene, centred on the ever-popular techno beat.

LIMELIGHT

Content Image InlineIt is spread across a spectacular Andean valley, it was once a capital of the Inca Empire, and it has a rich pre-Colombian history – yes, we are talking about Quito – a city full of meanings that identify and define it. Even though Quito is adorned with restored buildings, churches, historic theatres and parks, you can still find Quichua-speaking women queue for buses in traditional clothing with metres of beads strung tightly around their necks and where it is not uncommon to see children carried on their mothers' backs in securely wrapped blankets, as they are in the rural sierra. Quito is almost like an energetic collage, pulsating with life and consisting of strangely contrasting scenes threatening a sensory overload.

A true architectural feat set in the Red Limestone rock; it consists of one million pounds of steel and 64,000 pounds of glass, weighing 1.2 million pounds in total. TRAVEL INSIGHT

Content Image InlineLife is becoming faster and faster every day. As the pace of life accelerates, one’s time has become too valuable to spend waiting in airports for delayed flights to activities or meetings that had to be postponed until you arrived! Imagine the irritation and hazard that you have to face onboard an airplane when somebody snores on your shoulder, steps on your foot to stuff one’s handbag in the overhead baggage compartment! To avoid these, consider private jet charter – a faster, easier, more customised way to travel to your destination. Luckily, flying in a charter jet is one of the safest and most luxurious ways to travel.

TTW MICE

Content Image InlineExpansive, cutting edge exhibition centre and state-of-the-art facilities, strategic location are few of the many reasons for the increasing popularity of Abu Dhabi in the MICE industry. Abu Dhabi has begun challenging Dubai, for supremacy in this sector. According to the delegates polled at the Gulf Incentive, Business Travel and Meetings Exhibition (GIBTM) held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre this year, the overall outlook for the Middle East MICE industry is upbeat.
