133% increase in Chinese travellers researching UK destinations

According to a new study travellers from China are on the rise to the UK and there is no sign of slowing.

The TripAdvisor travel trend examines the fastest growing inbound markets for the UK based on the travellers interest in the UK destination along with the ratings given to the hotels, restaurants and attractions.
There was an increase  of 133 % in Chinese travellers researching the UK destinations between 2018 and the same period in 2019.

Chinese travellers showed one of the biggest increases in views of the UK destinations while the US experienced a dip in the number of Chinese visitors. This was due to the ongoing potential trade dispute and comments from China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism about travel to the United States.

Between 2018 and 2019 other countries showing increased interest in views of the UK were Costa Rica (+212%) and Cape Verde (+111%).

Bicester saw one of the biggest increases in interest from the overseas visitors, there was a 26% increase in visitors reaching the destination.
The UK hospitality industry saw real growth in interest from many countries and there were good reviews from travellers.

Fabrizio Orlando, industry relations manager, TripAdvisor siad that these findings not only paint a positive picture for the UK tourism industry, but they also provide the foundation for a strong marketing strategy for hospitality businesses.”
Further research from TripAdvisor’s TripBarometer study showed that demand for hotel amenities vary between nationalities.

Chinese travellers are more likely to want wifi in their room than any other nations. 60% of them expect it to be standard in any hotel.

While travellers from USA were among the most likely to look for properties with air conditioning but it wasn’t a deal breaker when looking for a place to stay.
