Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) has declared 2019 the ‘Year of Festivals’ in the Caribbean. In 2018, was celebrated as the ‘Year of Rejuvenation’. The unique rhythm and tempo of each CTO destination will be highlighted.
Hugh Riley, Secretary General of CTO opines that festivals help to energize communities across the region. It also gives visitors more reasons to enjoy the destinations. Festivals and events are an integral part of the Caribbean tourism calendar.
These celebrations highlight diverse backgrounds and traditions that determine Caribbean’s cultural canvas.
The 2019 Caribbean Year of Festivals will be promoted through social media and traditional media channels. The travellers and vacation planners will be able to share their unique experiences that will add to the depth of the promotion. All CTO member destinations would embrace the theme.
The Year of Festivals will feature all aspects of Caribbean cultural brocade – music, art, lights, food, rum, religious, literary, sailing, and dance festivals celebrated throughout the region.
The essence of the theme is yearning to celebrate life. Each Caribbean country offers a unique flavour that cannot be replicated.
CTO is headquartered in Barbados. It includes members from the private sector, the tourism development agency includes representatives from the various governments.
