A tour that was travelling towards Koh Rok had caught fire and thereafter it had sunk into the Andaman Sea. However, the 21 foreign tourists and the crew members who were aboard the tourist boat had been rescued on Monday afternoon.
Around 12.30 a.m. on Tuesday, marine police had landed three Thai crew members and 18 tourists at Pak Bara pier in tambon Pak Nam that is the Lagu district of Stun province immediately after they had been rescued by a fishing trawler, as reported by the Thai media.
The police were informed that the tour boat had left Lok Lipe pier around 2 p.m. on Monday.
It had been taking the tourists to dive at Koh Rok.
While the boat was approaching the site of diving, a fire struck at the rear of the boat. Though the crew members of the boat made attempts to extinguish the fire, they were unsuccessful. The flames spread like wildfire, compelling the crew members and all the tourists to jump into the sea.
Luckily, the fishing trawler Kor Niyomsin was fishing in the sea during that point of time and rushed to assist the tourists.
It was able to haul all the tourists and crew members safely on board.
All of them were later transferred to Marine Police patrol boat near Koh Buron. This boat took them to Pak Para. And, then they were taken ashore safely.
