About 24.67 million people had travel plans for Golden Week holiday, which is a rise of 1.2 per cent from the previous year as per the JTB report. In 2019, Golden Week runs from April 27 to May 6. The number of Japan residents travelling domestically is also projected to reach 24.01 million; an increase by 1.1 per cent. About 662,000 people are expected to travel abroad which is a rise of 6.9 per cent. It shows that more people are willing to travel this year.
The average cost for overseas trips was also expected to hit a record high. JTB report estimates that an average traveller will spend Japanese Yen 268,000 on overseas travel to cover costs such as accommodation and transport. JTB is largest travel agency in Japan.
The firm estimates that the residents of Japan will likely spend around Japanese Yen 1.06 trillion in total between April 27 and May 6, as per Risa Ogata, a spokeswoman for JBT.
As per the report, about 36.9 per cent of the respondents planned a two-day trip, and 1 in 3 had plans for a three-day vacation. The most popular plan for Golden Week holiday for domestic travellers is to visit their hometowns to spend time with their families. Those planning overseas trips prefer to relax according to the findings.
