Tourism Ireland welcomes today’s visit by The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, which is good news for tourism and another unique opportunity to convince potential holidaymakers in our largest tourism market to visit Donegal and the island of Ireland during 2016.
During their time here, the royal couple will enjoy our wonderful scenery, culture and hospitality.
Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “With Ireland in the news spotlight again this week during the visit by The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, Tourism Ireland will take every opportunity to maximise the tourism benefits of the royal visit. Journalists from Great Britain are in Ireland to cover the visit, beaming images of Donegal, including tourist attractions like Donegal Castle, directly into the homes of potential British visitors. Tourism Ireland will work to exploit this unique opportunity to highlight Ireland as a wonderful holiday destination.
“Great Britain is the largest market for tourism to the island of Ireland and 2016 has got off to a positive start, with the most recent CSO figures for Q1 showing growth of +17% in visitors from Britain. We are undertaking an extensive programme of promotions throughout 2016, to keep the momentum going and build on that growth.”
