When it comes to camping, Germany offers something for everyone- In a tent or a camper van, on a very basic or a luxurious campsite, in a rural idyll or near the city, by the sea or in the mountains –
Here are a few top tips for campers as compiled by the German National Tourist Board (GNTB).
1. At Insel Camp Fehmarn on Fehmarn Island, for example, you can camp right by the beach and next to the sea. Fall asleep to the gentle sound of the waves lapping on the shore, relax on a sandy beach and cast your eyes to the horizon. Families are particularly well catered for, with a wide range of organised activities and sports on offer.
2. If you prefer the mountains, then how about a camping holiday amid the spectacular scenery of the Alps? The Brunnen campsite is located right on the shore of Lake Forggensee, close to Neuschwanstein Castle and the town of Füssen. It offers a variety of outdoor activities, such as hiking or mountain biking, as well as the Relax Alm spa.
3. Camping in Germany also holds great appeal for eco-friendly travellers. Many campsites have been awarded the EcoCamping quality marque for environmentally friendly holidays. Needless to say, these campsites offer an experience that is particularly close to nature.
4. Now you can combine camping with a touch of luxury! The options for ‘glamping’ accommodation in Germany are growing all the time. ‘Glamping’ is a portmanteau word derived from ‘glamour’ and ‘camping’, and the type of holiday it stands for makes the activity attractive to even the most reluctant of campers. It combines closeness to nature with a degree of comfort and luxury not normally associated with camping. Many campsites offer special types of accommodation, an extensive range of wellness and leisure facilities, and top-notch cuisine.
To find your perfect campsite in Germany you can use GNTB’s campsite search to find the places that are ideally suited to your requirements.
