This festival is organized by J&K Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) to lure tourists in the off season and also promote the local food and culture.
Sarmad Hafeez who is the MD of JKTDC said that Pahalgam is mainly a summer destination.
But then, such events would be attracting tourists in fall as well as the winter months. And the event is an invitation to travellers across the nation and also outside India to visit the beautiful Valley and Pahalgam in winter months too.
Hafeez said that the local food preparations have been the major allure of the festival of Pahalgam.
Several varieties of food are prepared by the local chefs at the lawns of the Pahalgam Club that overlooks River Lidder bringing many food connoisseurs of the locality together. Products of the Valley’s famed handicrafts like wood carving, papier mache, willow works, embroidered namda and chain stitch items apart from horticulture products including dry fruits, pear, apple and honey were also showcased in this festival.
The festival also features photography and painting exhibition of the spectacular landscape of the Valley.
Photos including buildings portraying the local architecture were also demonstrated. Cultural festivals were also held at Pahalgam Club. Local artists performed many cultural programs and skits that enthralled audiences.
The festival was also supported by Tourism Development, Pahalgam Hotel and Restaurant Owners Association (PHAROA), Pahalgam Development Authority and J&K Cultural Academy.
