Enrique de la Madrid Cordero, secretary of federal tourism emphasized during the opening of 30th edition of Cancún Travel Mart 2017 that Mexico has received 26 million foreign visitors, 12% more than in 2016. This is a positive sign despite the various travel rules coming from the US.
De la Madrid Cordero said that until August this year, the economic output of tourism was 14.7 billion pesos, a figure 9.75% higher than that of 2016. The tourism industry consists of about 8.7% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and a growth in this industry would help to improve the living conditions of the residents of the country.
Cancun Travel Mart is a trade fair for travel and tourism where in Cancun buyers of travel services meet with providers from all over Mexico. The aim of the exhibition is to promote the tourism in Mexico. The organizers of the exhibition lay emphasis on creating a balanced relationship between purchasers and providers, so that both sides get their fair share of business.
Speaking about the travel alerts, he said that the authority needs to work in order to make the place a safer destination. The 30th edition of Cancun Travel Mart has convened important representatives of the tourism industry of Cancún as a world-class destination and the positioning of Quintana Roo, which has nearly 100,000 hotel rooms and infrastructure that allows it to capture 40% of tourism revenues.
This year, 316 buyers, 335 suppliers, 98 stands, more than 3,500 scheduled business appointments are expected which can bring in about $3.5 billion USD business.
