A French TV crew from Envoyé Special, was in Northern Ireland recently to film some of the locations featured in the HBO ‘Game of Thrones’ series. Invited by Tourism Ireland, the production team spent time visiting film locations in Co. Down and along the Causeway Coast. This weekly current affair programme will be broadcast on national TV station France 2 this summer and will be seen by more than 4.5million viewers in France.
During their time at Castle Ward, near Strangford, the crew had the opportunity to immerse themselves in a ‘Game of Thrones’ experience organised by ClearSky Adventure and take part in in an archery lesson at ‘Winterfell’ and ‘coincidentally’ film two French visitors enjoying a cycle ride around Castle Ward. Following an overnight in Belfast, the TV crew travelled along the Causeway Coastal Route stopping at the various featured film locations including the caves at Cushendun; Ballintoy ‘Pyke’ Harbour, and the Giant’s Causeway. The itinerary was devised by the Tourism NI.
Monica MacLaverty, Tourism Ireland’s manager for southern Europe, said: “We were delighted to facilitate this visit by the film crew from Envoyé Special to Northern Ireland. ‘Game of Thrones’ has a massive global audience and is now providing a great reason for many fans to come and visit Northern Ireland and experience for themselves the wonderful landscapes and locations featured in the series.
“TV and film are recognised as strong influencers for prospective holidaymakers and Tourism Ireland regularly works with overseas TV and production companies to facilitate the making of travel and lifestyle programmes, to get positive exposure for Northern Ireland around the world.”
