Almost 1100 athletes and delegates from 45 countries will attend the four-day long Asian Athletics Championships to be starting in Bhubaneswar from July 6. During this event, Odisha Tourism is taking preparations to display world class tourist sites of the state by arranging tours to these places for athletes, delegates and national and international media persons.
Three different trips will be organized for three categories of people. The first trip have been arranged for national and international media persons, second for members of international and national athletics federations and third one for the athletes. There is also a three-day trip for media people. It will start from July 3 and cover major tourist places like Dhauli in Bhubaneswar, heritage and crafts village Raghurajpur in Puri, Jagannath temple, Konark sun temple and sea beach in Puri, Buddhist sites like Ratnagiri, Lalitgiri and Udaygiri in Jajpur district.
The second trip for members of national and international athletics federations will be a one day affair on July 4, where they can visit tribal museum and Dhauli peace pagoda in Bhubaneswar and Konark Sun temple in Puri district.
The last trip is for the athletes. NB Jawale, director of tourism said, “We can’t take them to tourist sites before their events are finished. So they can join us for the trip in a phased manner after their events are over. Their managers can inform our nodal officers about their time schedule and we will take them to different sites in in city and its outside.”
The Puri route bus will cover Dhauli, Raghurajpur, Konark, Jagannath temple and sea beach at Puri, while the Jajpur route bus will cover famous Buddhist sites like Ratnagiri, Lalitgiri and Udaygiri. They even visit several local sites in Bhubaneswar like tribal museum, Lingaraj temple, Khandagiri and Udaygiri hills. Two Mercedes Benz luxury buses hired from Telangana will be used for sightseeing. Even Audi cars will be used during the trip for the top federation members. Special kit bags with brochures, booklet of Odisha tourism, city guide and two books on Odisha destinations have been prepared to provide to the athletes and delegates.
Jawale said that this event will boost tourism of the state and will give it a new experience altogether.
