As per a joint study conducted by China Skinny and Findoout in the month of February by surveying more than two thousand consumers based in China, Donald Trump damaged the sentiment of Chinese consumers in buying US property and stocks, visiting various American places and studying at their Universities.
The categories mentioned above are the three most badly affected genres out of 15 others with steady decline of 17.7 percent, 13.9 percent and 10 percent respectively. Next comes, food and beverage, mother and baby products, and beauty products categories. After Canada and Mexico, China is one of the largest export markets for US.
Though, Trump has not been completely harmful for American exporters to China. However, Chinese consumer sentiment post Trump election was a major hit. Three categories: movies (up 11.8% in net sentiment), music (up 5.4%), and media (up 3.5%) received distinct advantage.
To quote Mark Tanner, MD of China Skinny, ‘’ n an obscure way, that could help American brands.’’ To quote Bowei Yu, CEO of Findoout, ‘’ Remarkably, the results were consistent across respondents’ city tiers, genders, ages, and professions, signaling Trump is affecting attitudes in every corner of China.’’
