A light show that spans four blocks and a hotel transformed into a winter wonderland, complete with a train and a talking tree, are just a few of the ways Louisville is gearing up for Santa’s arrival.
40 Nights of Lights is a nightly light show in downtown Louisville that’s synchronized to holiday music. Among the glowing highlights are more than 1,100 strands of red, green and blue LED lights that will animate 250 snowflake and fleur de lis fixtures along Fourth Street, between Main and Chestnut streets.
It runs from Nov. 30 to Jan. 1, 2014, and lights will come aglow every hour from 6 p.m. to midnight.
Christmas at the Galt House will transform Louisville’s only hotel overlooking the Ohio River into its very own North Pole. A Candy Cane Forest, Peppermint Express Kiddie Train Ride, Mr. Sugar Pine the Talking Tree, a life-size gingerbread house, larger-than-life KaLightoscope luminaries and the Santa’s Sleigh Green Screen Experience are among the highlights.
It’s under way now through Jan. 1, 2014.
Here’s a rundown of more holiday happenings in Louisville:
Watch holiday performances, including “A Christmas Carol” at Actors Theatre of Louisville; “Winter Wonderettes” and “Jingle Arrgh the Way! A Christmas Pirate Adventure” at Derby Dinner Playhouse; “Colors of the Season Holiday Dinner Show” at the Galt House Hotel & Suites; and the Louisville Ballet’s “The Brown-Forman Nutcracker.”
Tour homes and neighborhoods decked out for the holiday at the Old Louisville Holiday Home Tour; Bardstown Road Aglow in the Highlands; Old Tyme Christmas Celebration in Clifton and Crescent Hill; and Candlelight Christmas at Historic Locust Grove.
