A six-page article showcasing Sligo and highlighting Yeats2015 featured in a recent edition of Les Echos Week-End, a popular French newspaper with about 500,000 readers – or potential holidaymakers for Sligo and Ireland.
Tourism Ireland in Paris invited journalist Mireille Gignoux, from Les Echos Week-End newspaper, to visit Sligo in June. The resulting article appeared under the headline “L’Irlande de Yeats” and featured lots of wonderful photos of places like Ben Bulben, Lough Gill and Drumcliffe. It mentioned Carrowmore, surfing in Sligo and The White Hag brewing company and included tips for great places to stay and eat.
The article also appeared in the online version of the newspaper.
Monica MacLaverty, Tourism Ireland’s Manager Southern Europe, said: “We were delighted with the excellent coverage in Les Echos Week-End newspaper, which is a wonderful way of showcasing Sligo to our ‘culturally curious’ audience in France. Publicity is an important element of our overall promotional programme, helping to raise awareness through the media in France of our spectacular scenery, wonderful gardens and the many things to see and do on a holiday in Ireland.
“France is our of our top four markets for tourism and 2015 looks set to be another record year for French visitors to Ireland, with the latest CSO figures showing an increase of +17% for August to October. We are determined to ensure that growth continues. We have a busy promotional campaign under way right now – aimed at boosting late-season travel to Ireland from France and at positioning us well for 2016.”
