There are more than half a million passenger journeys on South West Trains every day and nearly 230 million per year, making the network one of the busiest in Europe. London Waterloo is also the busiest station in the country with 98million passengers per year.
The improvements to the timetable follow feedback from passengers and local stakeholders and are an important part of the biggest improvements to the capacity across this network for decades.
A brief summary of the improvements include:
Tim Shoveller, Managing Director for South West Trains, said: “These improvements to our timetable are providing 57,000 extra seats right across our network through completely new services, longer trains and services with stops at more stations.
“This is a significant step forward in our efforts to boost capacity right across the network, which is still growing and providing half a million passenger journeys every day.
“In addition to the timetable improvements we are also nearing the end of our £65million rollout of 108 additional and refurbished carriages – this means we can provide more carriages on many of our busiest services and we hope to have all 108 extra carriages introduced early next year.”
