Early on Sunday, five people were injured and a 23-year-old man died in a shooting that took place at a private party in a Rockford hotel. Rockford is the third largest city in the US located in Illinois.
The shooting was prompted by a dispute that broke out at a grand birthday party that was being attended by a large number of people at the Clock Tower Resort and Conference Center, according to Rich Gambini, Rockford police.
The hotel authorities called the police around 12.50 a.m. after there were reports of shots being fired inside the hotel.
When they arrived, the police discovered the body of Marcello Brown, a 23-year-old man was declared dead at the scene, on the floor of the hallway. Gambini said that the scene inside the hotel was quite chaotic as people were seen running from the scene of the incident.
As per the version of Gambini, the victims of the shooting were from Rockford.
Alongside the shooting of Brown, a 20-year-old man was also seriously injured. He was taken to the hospital in a critical condition.
Four other people including an 18-year-old woman and men in the age groups of 21, 19 and 18 were victims of injuries. However, their injuries were not at all life threatening.
Gambini said that none of the culprits have been arrested.
He added that the police did not have any information as to who was responsible for the shootings.
Chavez Dyse was one of the people who had attended the party. However, she was at a Wal-Mart purchasing snacks while the shooting started occurring. She said that a large crowd had gathered at the spot where her cousin was shot. She also said that currently her cousin was recovering.
Dyse said that the party contained people who were mostly under 50.
She feels that the shooter might have probably slipped inside the hotel after someone let some people in through a side door.
This killing is the 22nd homicide this year in Rockford. In 2015, there were 19 homicides in Rockford.
