Sanith had said yesterday morning that they have been working with officials from the Tourism Authority of Thailand Phuket Office, Patong Police Station, Phuket Customs House and Phuket Marine Office with an aim to welcome about 7,800 tourists who had disembarked the Ovation of the Seas and Mariner of the Seas cruise liners to enjoy a leisurely day on the island.
The cruise liners had left on the next leg of their voyage around 9 p.m. last night.
The liners had been anchored near the 300 metre-long Coral Beach jetty that is based in Patong. Once they had landed, the passengers were entertained by the traditional Thai dancers.
Some of the cruise travellers preferred to take taxis or even tuk-tuks to other portions of the island while the others just enjoyed a lovely stroll along the Patong Beach. The media and the officials had been invited on board the Ovation of the Sea cruise liner. Here they were greeted by Captain Henrick from Norway who had presented Sanith with a souvenir.
Captain Henrick also gave the officials and media personnel a tour of the boat.
Later, he ensured that all of them were offered lunch at one of the restaurants of the liner. Sanith said that about 7,800 cruise liner passengers had spent the day on Phuket today. They have estimated that each passenger would spend at least B4,000 during the trip.
