The rise in passenger numbers has led to the expansion at Edinburgh airport with an investment of £80 million.
The project is expected to be completed by next summer. The three-storey extension will have rooms for the new boarding gates, seating areas, retail storage, food and beverage options, wash rooms, office spaces and VIP lounges.
The Edinburgh airport officials expects the passenger numbers to increase by 16.5 million by 2021.The expansion is a part of the airport’s £220 million capital investment programme.
Gordon Dewar, chief executive of Edinburgh airport said that this being Scotland’s busiest and fastest growing airport in the UK, the demand will increase with the record numbers of passengers.
During summers the busy periods have impacted on their service, the new investment will have better infrastructure to handle more passengers and give them a positive experience while arriving or departing.
Scotland is the gateway to the vital and it is important to provide first class infrastructure. Investments will help in creating more jobs, supporting the economy and making Scotland more accessible to the world.
