8,000 hotel rooms added in 2018 in Russia, CIS, neighboring countries markets

Moscow (over 1,700 thousand keys), Kyiv (591 keys), St. Petersburg (539 keys), Yerevan (470 rooms) and Tbilisi (402 rooms) became the top urban cities in terms of branded hotel room supply addition.

 

 

 

 

It is believed that 29 per cent more branded rooms were added in 2018 as compared to the previous year – 8,000 vs. 6,200.

 

 

 

 

2018 World Cup preparations was a factor in the increase of hotel rooms in Russia. Tatiana Veller, Head of JLL Hotels & Hospitality Group, Russia & CIS said that almost half of the new branded supply volume was in hotels opened in the World Cup host cities (3,400 rooms).

 

 

 

 

After many years an internationally branded hotel by AccorHotels (117 rooms) was opened in Almaty – Mercure. In Georgia, four new hotels opened in Tbilisi. In Shekveteli and Sairme (Autograph Collection by Marriott and Best Western were opened respectively. Azimut Hotels are extending their reach to the remote Russian regions such as Suzdal, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Nalchik, Kemerovo, Kyzyl, Mirny (Yakutia).

 

 

 

 

With 1,400 keys addition in these areas in 2018, French chain AccorHotels held the top position. It was followed by Azimut Hotels (1,300 new keys) and Marriott International(1,200 keys).

 

 

 

 

Maintaining the momentum, hotel brands are planning to open 8,000 rooms in this region in 2019. Russia, Georgia (1600 rooms), and Kazakhstan (900 rooms), are supposed to get the major share of hotel rooms.
