On Sunday, American Airlines announced extending the cancellations of about 90 daily flights from the earlier timeframe of April 24 considering the grounding of the troubled 737 Max plane by regulators.

In a statement the prolonged the airlines mentioned that there will be disruptions for some travellers due to prolonged cancellations.

Since mid-March the Boeing-made Max jets were grounded in the U.S. and elsewhere after the crashes that took place in Ethiopia and Indonesia.

There are 24 Max jets in the American Airlines fleet and was awaiting information from the U.S. regulators and will touch base with customers affected by the cancellations with available re-bookings.

The company requires more time to finish changes in a flight-controlled system that might be a cause related to the two crashes according to the Boeing and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration.

This implied that the airlines will be forced to park their Max jets longer than they expected.

American Airlines stated that they will be able to provide better service to their customers with availability and re-booking option that will prevent last-minute flight disruptions as thy will be cancelling the flights in advance.

The airlines reservations staff will be sending email or call the affected customers.
It stated that the cancellations and changes may affect some of their customers and they were working to limit the impact to the smallest number of customers.

Boeing mentioned that it will be cutting the production of Max jet considering the financial risk it will be facing the maximum time it remains grounded.

To fix the flight- control software that was implicated in the two crashes, starting from mid-April Boeing will be cutting the production of the plane to 42 from 52 planes per month.

It was found through the preliminary investigations into the accidents in Ethiopia and Indonesia that the sensor readings by mistake triggered an anti-stall system pushing the plane’e nose down. While the pilot of each plane struggled in vain to regain control over the automated system.

Boeing is facing a number of lawsuits by the families of the victims and the announcement to cut the production came after Boeing acknowledged that a second software issues needed fixing on the Max.
