Last year 80,000 visitors flocked to Ras Al Khaimah, the most northerly emirate in UAE, increased chartered flights from Europe. Also, Russian visitors increased in the number. As per new figures from the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA), RAK witnessed 10.9 percent of tourist in 2016 in comparison to 800,701 from 740,383 in 2015. By 2019, RAKTDA is expecting to lure more than 1 million tourists.
The average occupancy rates in RAK hotels increased by 10 percent from January till December last year. However, the average length of stay went up from 3.19 days in 2015 to 3.32 days in 2016 as said by the tourism authority.
Largest number of visitors from UAE was 41.2 percent making Germans one of the largest overseas source markets accounting for about a tenth of the total, followed by visitors from the India, UK and Russia. RAKTDA said an augment in the value of the Russian doubled against the US dollar in 2016 led to a 19.5 per cent increase in the Russian visitors.
