IAGTOThe 5* Donnafugata Golf Resort, located in the heart of Sicily, has for years now not only been a popular destination for tourists from around the world, but also a perfect venue to host competitive events at the highest level.
The Parkland course by Gary Player and the Links course by Franco Piras have hosted in the first part of this year the Italian and Danish national team, who took advantage of the mild winter weather to start their pre-season preparations. They could fully enjoy all the different aspects of the Resorts’ facilities, not only from a hotel point of view but also being able to take advantage of all of the golf features on offer.
Outdoor physical preparation, the use of the spacious and well-equipped gym and indoor pool and the possibility to alternate between some training in the driving range, putting greens and short game areas has been greatly appreciated by athletes and technicians alike.
The kitchen has been able to meet the nutritional needs required by trainers but also to offer delicacies, which made it even a greater pleasure to work and train.
In March, the Italian International Ladies Championship tournament took place for the first time in Sicily at the Donnafugata Golf Resort.
Over one hundred players competed on the Parkland course for the coveted trophy.
After an emotional game, the victory went to the Dutch player Romy Meekers who, in order to win, had to face a tense playoff in front of a large audience against compatriot Zhen Bontan.
The third place went to the Italian athlete Alessandra Fanali.
The course was in excellent condition and proved to be a valid playground for players and technicians alike.
Major events will continue to take place at the Donnafugata Golf Resort, as it has been chosen as the venue of the BMW Golf Cup International Final 2017 in October this year. The Ragusan greens will be in the centre of the golf world’s attention when the 38 candidates of the previous competitions organized by the prestigious German car manufacturer will compete for the final title.
Meanwhile Donnafugata Golf Resort & Spa will continue to host large numbers of golf tourists and others.
