Vijayanagar Sri Krishnadevaraya University (VSKU) in Ballari is thinking of introducing a Master’s Degree in Tourism Management for tapping tourism potential in Hampi World Heritage Site. Such a course would not only help in managing the heritage properties in a systematic way but also ensure that the university can offer institutional backing acting as knowledge partner to the authorities who are in charge of protecting and managing world heritage sites.
The university along with the authorities concerned and those involved in tourism promotion can contribute towards preparation and implementation of various tourist circuits, tapping rich world heritage potential at Hampi for providing hands-on training to students and skill development training to locals for spreading traditional art and culture.
A preliminary round of meetings was held at the university with the Vice Chancellor and other eminent people in attendance. Suring the meeting, how Hampi is a famous heritage site and how its negligence is a huge loss to the state. The effort of the university in offering courses related to tourism would not only help the local youth in pursuing tourism careers, but also open up opportunities for university researchers for pursuing research in those areas.
There would also be a special university committee for courses on Tourism Management, comprising authorities concerned including Deputy Commissioner of Ballari and other experts. The committee will also meet for charting out a detailed plan of action.
