A new tourism region takes shape in Western Alberta, due to the joint efforts of the Town of Rocky Mountain House, the Village of Caroline, and Clearwater County. This new tourism region has been named as David Thompson Country, which is named after David Thompson himself who is noteworthy in this region for his mapping of the area in both the North West Company and the Hudson Bay Company.
This new region is now being promoted to potential visitors. It covers an area of more than 18,000 square kilometers, with many famous attractions including Nordegg, Crimson Lake, Burnstick Lake and the Bighorn Back Country. To quote Rachele Peter, Mayor of the Village of Caroline, “We are working towards showcasing our natural advantages to people around the world.”
This region has the unique tagline “Challenge Your Inner Explorer” which emphasizes the natural beauty and landscape of the area, challenging people to push themselves to a new level. According to Mayor Fred Nash, “Naming the area after an adventurous like David Thompson helps us show everyone why this is such a remarkable place to visit. We all know how great it is to live, work, and play here.” A new website will be launched by the tourism group on April 1, which will help tourists plan their tours with information on places to stay, along with events and activities. There are already YouTube and Facebook social media channels and pages for this region.
