Airlines for America (A4A), the industry trade organization for the leading U.S. airlines, today applauded the House passing the Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act of 2015 (H.R. 644) and urged the Senate to follow before the end of the year as the legislation is vital to streamlining the border clearance process to facilitate shipping and encourage economic activity.
The bill, which has strong bipartisan support, will strengthen the relationship between the trade community and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). In addition, the bill’s provisions on CBP’s preclearance facilities will ensure that decisions to pursue these facilities take into account the impact on U.S. security and economic interests.
“Airlines for America appreciates the recent House and Senate agreement on the Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act of 2015 (H.R. 644),” said A4A President and CEO Nicholas E. Calio. “Continued customs modernization is essential to providing CBP the tools needed to protect the United States while simultaneously enabling the movement of goods and people.”
A4A said the legislation enhances security and also provides a modern interface for American importers, exporters and their air carrier partners.
