A refreshed version of Accessible Tourism e-learning tool has been launched by ABTA. The online tool was developed in consultation with the Equality & Human Rights Commission to meet the customer demand.
The tool has updated guidance in sync with the new regulations such as the Package Travel Regulations and GDPR and also shows amendments after the2010 Equality Act.
It provides supports in relation to the travel industry like overcoming the fear of asking the wrong questions, non-visible disabilities, legal obligations and handling complaints.
There are case studies providing real life examples. There are more than 14 million disabled people in the UK and increase in disability in over 50s.
Any issues related to disability, equality and awareness like the people with reduced mobility and hearing, sight and cognitive, intellectual and psycho-social disabilities will provide support to the industry staff.
From travel agent staff to tour operator representatives based in resort ABTA will enable all the staff so that they gain knowledge and confidence.
ABTA’s Knowledge Zone is an e-learning portal where the training will be introduced. It will keep the members informed about industry related issues and constantly support learning and career development.
Nikki White, ABTA director of destinations and sustainability stated that disabled customers should receive the same service and treatment as any other customer. Many people are unaware of the obstacles and training staff on disability awareness will be encouraging the staff to maintain customer dignity.
