Warner Bros. is setting up a $1 billion theme park that will open in Abu Dhabi. The plans were announced in the UAE. The park will have popular superheroes and cartoon characters from Bugs Bunny , Scooby-doo, Batman and Superman.
The first phase is scheduled to open in 2018 and will include a Warner Bros. branded hotel on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island, which is currently home to a Formula 1 racetrack, Ferrari World amusement park and watermark. The project’s developer is Abu Dhabi’s Miral Asset Management.
“As a first of its kind, the Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi theme park and branded hotel is a milestone in the emirate’s journey to put Abu Dhabi on the global map and become one of the world’s leading tourist destinations,” says His Excellency Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman, Miral.
The project was announced jointly by Warner Bros. and Miral. The UAE, already a major tourist destination, is looking to drive up its tourism revenue with other eye-popping projects. Dubai has plans for a $3 billion theme park with a Six Flags, a Bollywood-themed amusement area and Legoland.
“The Warner Bros. themed destination will be a major step in maintaining Yas Island’s momentum and is expected to create more than 1000 jobs for the Emirate,” says Mohamed Abdullah Al Zaabi, CEO of Miral.
