Abu Dhabi ranks second in the world for living, working and business

Published on : Tuesday, July 18, 2017

indexAs per the Ipsos City Index, which interviewed over 18,000 people, aged between 16 and 64, in 26 countries worldwide, Abu Dhabi has been ranked the second-best city in the world for living, working and for business.

Abu Dhabi has moved two spots since last year’s report, coming ahead of major cities like London and Paris, but remained behind New York, which retained the number one spot. Around 21 percent of the surveyed participants named Abu Dhabi as a top city to do business in, just 2 percent behind New York.

The Gulf city also ranked highest among participants from younger generations such as Generation X, Millennials and Generation Z.

To quote Saif Saeed Ghobash, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, TCA Abu Dhabi, “The rise of Abu Dhabi in this global ranking is testament to the ongoing efforts to establish the emirate as not only a tourist destination of distinction, but a location that international communities want to work, live and do business in. Its distinct popularity among the younger generations highlights the need for global cities to diversify and innovate to sustain their position and strength as business and tourism hubs.” Ghobash stressed that the persistent rise of tourism in Abu Dhabi meant that it will grow from strength to strength as more international visitors experience what the emirate has to offer.

From the period stretching from January to May 2017, Abu Dhabi recorded nearly 2 million hotel guest arrivals, which is a 4 percent rise since the same period last year. Over 600,000 hotel guests in the emirate were classified as local visitors. Other cities on the list included Sydney, Hong Kong, Cape Town, Moscow and Toronto among others.
