Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, TCA Abu Dhabi, has announced the second season of Multaqa Zayed National Museum Series, a lecture programme for the Zayed National Museum which charts the museum’s development and explores topics that make up the cultural tapestry of the UAE.
Building on the success of the first series in 2015, Multaqa Zayed National Museum will hold five talks on selected dates between March and June, 2016, at Manarat Al Saadiyat, Saadiyat Island.
Salama Al Shamsi, Project Manager of Zayed National Museum at TCA Abu Dhabi, said, “The Zayed National Museum lecture series aims to interpret the rich cultural heritage of the UAE and the legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the ‘Father of the Nation’, by bringing together speakers who lived through the vast and rapid development the UAE witnessed during Sheikh Zayed’s reign. The national museum will position itself as an integral part of the UAE and as a centre of excellence for the public, offering understanding about the nation’s past and appreciation for its presence and future.”
The inaugural lecture of the series will be held on 9th March under the title, ‘Global Legacy: Sheikh Zayed’s Faith and Humanitarianism’. The talk will focus on the great compassion shown by Sheikh Zayed as he looked beyond the UAE, supporting projects across the globe and examining the legacy that continues to this day. On 30th March, the second lecture, ‘An Inspiration: Sheikha Salama bint Butti and Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak’, will celebrate two inspirational women who occupy a strong position in Emirati history, and the roles they had in leading the country.
The three remaining lectures will delve into the rich cultural aspects of Emirati heritage. On 13th April, ‘Music of a Nation: Cultural Harmony’ will look at how centuries of trade have influenced and shaped the UAE’s musical traditions, including instruments, songs and performances. On 18th May, the lecture, ‘Language of the Land’ will draw on the beauty and intricacies of the Emirati Arabic dialect, examining modern communication as well as historical foreign influences and the use of Emirati Arabic in traditional poetry. The Multaqa Zayed National Museum series will end with a final talk on 1st June, ‘The Ancient Land of the UAE’, where archaeological experts will discuss the continuous archaeological research, excavations, and the various fossils discovered in the UAE, and thus further expanding the current understanding of the profound history of the land.
Throughout the second edition of Multaqa Zayed National Museum, each lecture will be followed by a dedicated educational workshop aimed at families of all ages, building on the concepts and themes discussed in the talks.
Dedicated to celebrating Emirati culture and heritage, Zayed National Museum will treasure the history and unification of the Emirates and their transformation into a modern nation under Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the ‘Father of the Nation’, within the context of the Middle East and the wider world. The future national museum will enable visitors to encounter an unparalleled collection of art and artefacts from ancient and living cultures of the UAE and the wider Middle East.
