highlights tourism concernTourism has become a major concern as a result of the clashes between Philippine troops and suspected Abu Sayyaf militants in the central province which is the fountainhead of the fighting.

Few tourists have already canceled online hotel reservations and this may be an estimated 10 percent as confirmed by Jaypee Orcullo, an officer of the Department of Tourism in Bohol province. However, situation is normal at the white sand beaches of Bohol’s Panglao Island and Tagbilaran, capital of this place which is frequented by tourists. He confirmed that the site from where fighting had started on Tuesday is a remote area. It’s a three-hour road ride away from Panglao and approximately two hours away from Tagbilaran.

Next week officials from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and Hong Kong are scheduled to meet in Bohol and many hotels are fully booked already as confirmed by Orcullo.
