downloadThe traffic surge during Lunar New Year continued to have a positive impact on the Asia-Pacific airports in March 2015, reporting a +11.1% year-on-year rise, and a +8.5% growth for the first quarter. The Middle East also recorded strong rise of +10.0% in March, and +9.4% for the first quarter.

Many of the major airports in the Asia-Pacific generated double digit growth in Q1 2015: Shanghai Pudong (PVG) +17.7%, Incheon (ICN) +15.6%, Bangkok (BKK) +14.8%, and New Delhi (DEL) +13.0%. Bangkok Don Muang (DMK) delivered the highest growth among major Asia-Pacific airports at +51.2% whereas Abu Dhabi (AUH) +21.1% and Doha (DOH) +16.8% led the growth in the Middle East.

In terms of air freight statistics, Asia-Pacific showed a slowdown -1.4% for the month due to a mix of factors: a correction of the upsurge growth impacted by the timing of the Lunar New Year holiday that took place one month later in February, easing off of the increase in freight volume resulting from congestion at major US sea ports last month, and weaker demands from Europe. But the region maintained an overall positive growth of +4.7% in the first quarter.

The Middle East sustained strong growth both for the month +8.5% and in the first quarter +10.0%. Tokyo Haneda (HND) led Asia-Pacific with the highest growth rate +15.4% whereas Dubai (aggregate DXB & DWC1) led the Middle East at +26.7% for the first quarter
