Las Vegas is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the United States, with conventions and casinos fetching more than 42 million visitors to The Strip every year, as per the Las Vegas Conventions and Visitors Authority.
However, the massive influx of tourists may radically change after the Las Vegas shooting massacre last month. The impact of the shooting mishap is hard to figure out and its actual effect on Nevada tourism.
Las Vegas will experience a short-term drop in the number of visitors. Researchers are of the opinion that the shooting will decrease demand which will have a 4-6% negative effect on Las Vegas’ economy.
Since the event, security in the Strip has been beefed up. Stronger police presence along with introduction of hand-held metal detectors in hotels may have a counterproductive effect in the hospitality sector.
Till now, industry giant MGM hasn’t announced any major cancellations while Caesars said all the properties are running as planned.
