On Friday, Paderu, a village region in Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh, India experienced a rally organized by the adivasis from 7 tribal villages in order to protest the decision of district administration to declare Dallapalli a new tourist destination. NGO Dhaatri had arranged this rally.
As per the adivasis and NGO members, making Dallapalli a vacation spot and including in the tourism circuit will not only cause immense damage to the environment but also perturb the serenity and peace of this place.
Dallapalli is well-known for its pristine landscape and waterfalls and it’s situated in the Paderu mandal of Vizag. Gayatri Thayappa of Dhaatri mentioned that tourism introduction to this place will mess up the environment by plastic dumping.
“We are not against total ban of tourists, but what we demand is a well-planned eco-tourism model and most importantly, the adivasis should be made a stakeholder and be involved in the model,” she said.
She also said that the authorities didn’t even bother so far to intimate the adivasis about their tourism strategies and policies. On Friday, the Adivasis met the ITDA officials and submitted a memo.
