Aeroflot has released updated instructions for booking agents, “Rules for filling in passenger information”. The current version of the document states that it is strictly necessary to enter the telephone number of a passenger making a booking before a ticket is issued. In case of failure to observe the rule Aeroflot will fine the booking agent in question.
Entering correct contact details is important due to Aeroflot’s need to promptly inform passengers of important information relating to their forthcoming flights. Agents would sometimes enter an incorrect telephone number at booking, hampering communication with passengers in the event of flight time change, departure delay or rebooking, or departure terminal change. If incorrect contact information has been entered, the booking agent bears responsibility for the passenger possibly missing their fight.
Aeroflot has a special focus on making sure booking agents follow established norms and cooperative procedures. Nonetheless, Aeroflot also recommends that passengers take additional measures to safeguard tickets purchased through booking agencies. To protect their own interests, passengers have the right to demand that booking agencies should enter their contact details before their bookings have been confirmed by the agent.
