Nairobi Railway StationAfrican diplomats are all praise for the brand new Kenya’s Mombasa-Nairobi railway that has been financed by China and spreads throughout the entire East-African area after 13 of them visited the construction sites of this railway network.

The diplomats have approved it as an important representation of cordial Africa-China relationship.

High commissioners of Rwanda, Mozambique, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Algeria, Ghana and Uganda have been present at the event after they had been invited by the Chinese embassy.

The diplomats were all accompanied by Liu Xianfa, Chinese Ambassador to Kenya as well as Kenyan officials while they paid visit to the construction sites of Nairobi terminal and Athi River bridge.

James Kimonyo, the High Commissioner of Rwanda to Kenya said during this visit that the high-levelled expertise of Kenyan technicians and engineers in the project impressed them all.

The SGR or standard gauge railway funded by China would run to Nairobi from Mombasa. It would replace a very old track that had been once built during the colonial rule of the British. Bridge Corporation and China Road are conducting the construction of the project.

The railway would be reaching Kenya’s western border with Uganda in the second phase. And, this railway would finally extend to other nations of East Africa.

Kelebert Nkomani, dean, Diplomatic Corps in Kenya and the ambassador of Zimbabwe said that when the railway would be eventually completed, it would offer immense benefits to Kenya.

Nkomani said that the SGR is a crucial project as it deals with the transport of goods to the interior from the port.

The construction of the railway has led to the creation of over 40,000 jobs for local inhabitants of Kenya and nearly about 20,000 local employees have received training in soft skills. Nkomani said that Kenya has been benefitted economically by the railway construction project as it has created new jobs and offered expertise to the local employees.

Liu Xianfa, Chinese ambassador said that economic prosperity would be ushered in by the railway. He even added that the design of the railway was aesthetic as it permitted free movement of wild animals.

He declared that the SGR project was an embodiment of great cooperation between Africa and China.

The Nairobi-Mombasa railway would be opened to the public by the end of 2017.
