The statistics for the month of December has been released by the Agadir Regional Tourism Board (CRT) along with a collective data for the whole of 2016. In spite of a difficult year for international tourism, the results show growth.
New tourists increased by 23% and overnight bookings increased by 25%. Total number of tourists to Agadir rose from 56, 888 in 2015 to 69,943 in 2016, with a total of 13,055 additional tourists. This growth is due to rise of some major issuing markets, led by Germany, with a growth rate of 105%; the French market comes next with a 35% increase; the National market with 10.31% and the Russian market with 823%.
The English market had 10% growth rate with the Polish market with 13%. Average length of stay also rose. Hence, Agadir has maintained its position as the chief tourist destination for Morocco. Overall, Agadir has gone from a growth rate of -9% in the first half of 2016 to +3.17% overall in 2016.
