Airport Authority of India (AAI) will be providing world-class facilities of international standards to the Agartala Airport through a Rs 434 crore project which is expected to finish by year end or early 2020.
It will become the third international airport in the Northeast and the Tripura transport and tourism minister informed that AAI’songoing works will make Agartala’s Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport as an international one.
If the work is not affected by monsoon season or other factor then the declaration is expected to happen by early 2020.
The minister mentioned that the existing budgeted expenditure is expected to be escalated, however the government was constantly asking the AAI to complete the works early and within the stipulated standards.
There were discussions between Chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Civil Aviation Minister in New Delhi regarding the upgradation of the Airport.
As per the official of the Chief Minister’s office the Union Civil Aviation Minister Raj Kumar Singh is known to have positively responded when he was requested to expedite the work.
After Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport the airport in in Agartala is the second busiest in the northeast.Earlier the Impahal airport was declared as an international one .
