The airline said that it will refund the full amount to the customers.
The flight with 197 passengerswhich was supposed to take off on Friday was postponed till Sunday.
Spokeswoman Isabelle Arthur said in an email to The Canadian Press, “We apologize for the extended delay: this does not meet our own standards and we are sorry we’ve let our customers down.”
Canada’s largest airline faced the wrath of the marooned passengers over the weekend.
One person posted on social media “horrendous experience. Stuck in Manchester for 2 days and no one has been in contact to tell us what’s going on.”
Another tweet said “A second night in Manchester … due to more flight delays. AirCanada this is not how to treat your passengers.”
Manchester residents Melanie Best and her husband were to attend a marriage celebration in Toronto for which they had booked the flight.
Best described the extremely unpleasant ordeal to The Canadian Press in an email.
She explained how they got inside the plane on Friday, which was already after a 2 hour delay, after which they were sitting on the tarmac for continuous five hours while the mechanics tried to repair the hydraulic pump, in which they failed. After the cancellation of the flight, the passengers were made to stay in a hotel and were told to come back to the airport the next day.
However, when they checked in on Saturday morning, Best said constant delays kept her and the other passengers trapped in the airport lounge till evening.
She said, “Come 6 p.m. passengers were getting really stressed and angry and all gathering by customer information demanding more information.”
According to Best, the boarders were told that the plane was fine and would start at 8 p.m.
But after the departure time was over, the passengers were again told that the flight had been cancelled because of the flight crew issues, and will still at Sunday around noon.
She said, “At this point people were crying and disgusted beyond belief.”
