An airplane of Air India that was flying to London had gone off the radar for a few terrifying moments while it was flying over Hungary, according to the airline. It had issued this statement on Friday.
This aircraft had flown from Mumbai in the morning carrying 231 passengers and 18 crew members.
Thereafter, it had to be escorted by the fighter jets after it had lost contact with the Air Traffic Control while it was flying over Hungary. This Air India flight A1 171 had actually lost control with the Air Traffic Control on account of ‘frequency fluctuation’, as per the official account of an Air India spokesperson.
Later, a Hungarian fighter jet had escorted it.
This comes less than a month after a Jet Airways aircraft with over 300 people on board had been escorted by German Air Force planes after it had lost control with Air Traffic Control during a flight to London from Mumbai.
The current incident had taken place on 16th February in German air space.
The fighter jets escorted the Boeing 777 plane. Then, communication was restored and the flight later landed at Heathrow airport of London safely.
One of the news media reported that the communication blackout had occurred while the air traffic control in Slovakia was handing over the charge to the Air Traffic Control in Prague. This website claims that the blackout happened as the Jet Airways pilot had opted for a wrong frequency to communicate.
