As soon as the ATC noticed the mistake, they sprung into action directing IndiGo pilots to abort landing just in time.
According to reports, Air India flight no. 156 from Delhi to Goa was cleared for takeoff from runway which was allotted to IndiGo flight no. 398 coming in to Delhi from Ranchi by the Air Traffic Control (ATC).
Aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said that Indigo aircraft was landing on runway 27. he said that Air India aircraft which was taking off from runway 28 was asked to reject take off as per normal protocol. No safety issue, no collision issue and no infringement. and therefore nowhere safety was compromised.
A similar incident took place in December 2016, when two aircrafts came face-to-face moments before one was to takeoff at the Delhi airport. An Indigo flight was headed towards taxiway after landing just when a SpiceJet aircraft was preparing for takeoff. Both the passenger jets came face-to-face.
There is no report of any injury.
