The passenger numbers at Dubai World Central DWC that is the second airport of Dubai has been growing by over 35% in the initial half of the year as per the traffic report issued by Dubai Airports today.
DWC had embraced about 554,996 passengers in the first half of 2017 as compared to 41,0278 passengers in the initial six months last year marking a growth of about 35.3%.
The first half numbers were boosted by a constant growth and during this time the passenger traffic went up to 221,213 up by 45.1% as compared to 152,465 in the same period in the year 2016.
The leading regions for DWC with regard to passenger volumes in the first half included Eastern Europe (207,798 passengers), the GCC (170,424), Western Europe (61,459) and the Indian subcontinent (55,785 passengers).
The flight movements in the initial half had totaled 18,371 down by about 11.1% as compared to 20,656 flight movements that were recorded in the corresponding period in 2016. The average passenger per flight movement in the first half was 121, up by 34.4% as compared to 90 in the first six months of 2016.
Paul Griffiths, CEO, Dubai Airports said that DWC had performed quite well in the first half of the year that boasted of scheduled and chartered carriers that contributed to high traffic volumes at the airport.
Currently, 8 passenger carriers serve DWC that operates an average of 95 flights weekly to 14 international destinations and also flaunts 26 scheduled cargo operators flying to 70 destinations all across the world.
DWC is undergoing an important expansion that would be observing an increase in its annual capacity from the existing 5 million passengers to 26 million passengers.
