Austrian Airlines and the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) are expanding their cooperation program entitled “AIRail” on the route between Salzburg Central Railway Station and Vienna Airport to complement the successfully established railway connection between Linz Central Railway Station and Vienna Airport. In combination with a previous or subsequent Austrian Airlines flight, Austrian Airlines passengers will be able to take advantage of three daily Railjet connections of the ÖBB with an Austrian Airlines flight number between Salzburg Central Railway Station and Vienna Airport. Travel time between Salzburg Central Railway Station and Vienna Airport amounts to 2 hours 49 minutes. The existing Austrian Airlines flight offering of six daily flights on the Salzburg-Vienna route remains unchanged, and will be complemented by the three AIRail connections.
“The innovative intermodal transport concept i.e. the combination of railway and flight connections with our partner, the ÖBB, is very well received by our customers. Thanks to AIRail, the Linz-Vienna route has become our most successful connection within Austria. Due to the new AIRail connection between Salzburg and Vienna, we can fill the time gap in our daily offering“, explains Andreas Otto, CCO of Austrian Airlines.
Valerie Hackl, Member of the Management Board of ÖBB-Personenverkehr AG, emphasizes the importance of changed mobility needs. “Customers are demanding new solutions and the combination of different means of transport is one of them. On the basis of the expanded cooperation with Austrian Airlines, we are able to create an extended offering of networked mobility, thus enabling us to attract new passengers for the railway”, Hackl states.
AIRail: Collect miles like on flights, guaranteed further connection and WLAN on the train
In addition to the possibility of collecting miles on flight connections within the context of the Miles & More program, Austrian Airlines passengers can also collect miles on the AIRail route between Salzburg and Vienna. Passengers on Railjet can use WLAN and enjoy the catering of the firm “Henry am Zug”. Furthermore, they benefit from a guaranteed further connection, regardless of whether their journey continues by plane or train. Austrian Business Class passengers travel in first class on the train, and are also given free access to the ÖBB lounge before leaving Salzburg Central Railway Station.
For example, with AIRail Austrian Airlines passengers can travel by train from Salzburg to Vienna and subsequently fly to Bangkok and back starting at EUR 639. This includes a seat in a separate Austrian Airlines area as well as all service fees and taxes.
