The passengers said that they had heard loud bangs and also a burst of fire from the engine of the aircraft a few minutes into the flight from Gold Coast on Monday.
Other travellers on board the flight were anxious about their lives.
They started putting on life jackets while they were preparing for a crash landing. The mid-air horror comes just a week after an aircraft of AirAsia had to return to Perth Airport after an engine had caused the plane to shake violently.
Thereafter, the pilot on board that plane had asked the passengers to ‘say a prayer’.
The AirAsia plane that went for an emergency landing on Monday suspected that a bird strike had caused the plane to run into trouble. The plane was carrying 345 passengers and 14 crew members. Later, it was able to land safely a while after 11.30 p.m.
One of the passengers reportedly told the news media that he had observed an orange light coming from the windows.
Two bird remains were also discovered on the runway. The airline mentioned in its official statement that flight D7 207 had to be diverted after it had confronted with a bird strike in about 20 minutes into the flight.
AirAsia CEO Benyamin Ismail said that all the passengers would be flown to Kuala Lumpur on a special flight.
