Renowned hospitality company Airbnb has revealed that they have welcomed over 55,000 guest travellers to the 2016 Rio summer Olympics as the official alternative accommodation services. Tourists are pouring the country from across 110 nations across the globe.
The guests are paying an average of 170 USD per night for their stay in Rio during the summer Olympics.
Only six percent of the bookings have been received from domestic travellers, where the lion’s share belongs to Brazil. At present 49% of the bookings have been received from Brazilian travellers. After Brazil, Airbnb has received fans from various parts of USA, Argentina, UK and France.
Leonardo Tristão, Airbnb’s Country manager for Brazil has stated, “We’ve been working together with our host community in Rio to prepare for the arrival of thousands of fans who will be travelling from both near and far to witness this once-in-a-lifetime event. Regardless of where you are from or what nationality you represent, our Airbnb community is here to welcome you and host you with real, authentic Brazilian hospitality.”
On an average, the guests of Airbnb are booking their accommodation in Rio, for more than six nights. It has been found out that 60% of the guests have used Airbnb for the first time because of the 2016 Olympics. Airbnb has also received a rise of 62% first-time hosts during the summer Olympics.
It has been revealed that the majority of travellers are picking Rio’s popular destinations including Barra da Tijuca, Copacabana, Leblon, Ipanema and Botafogo. Some travellers have also shown interest in the unconventional tourist spots like Marechal Hermes, Del Castilho and Meier.
It is most certain that the Rio Olympics is helping the Airbnb authorities to receive a significant growth in the industry.
