Dr. Mario Hardy, the chief executive of PATA mentioned that they are overjoyed to welcome Airbnb into the family of PATA. He further stated that Airbnb presently boasts of more than four million listings across the globe and hence it is impossible to ignore the fact that the sharing economy is having an enormous impact on the tourism industry. He feels that it is extremely important for them to be able to add this voice to their discussions in the creation of a responsible tourism industry.
He then went on to add that in the following few months PATA and Airbnb would be working together to usher in great insights on topics related to the sharing economy comprising the issue of over tourism and its economic impact.
Established in the year 1951 PATA represents a not-for-profit membership association acting as a catalyst for the responsible development of travel and tourism to, from and within the Asia Pacific area.
Thao Nguyen who is the Head of Strategic Partnerships for APAC region or Airbnb asserted that the concept of home-sharing has rapidly emerged as an essential economic engine for various communities and they are excited to join the PATA family in promoting the idea of sustainable tourism that would directly benefit local communities.
