Airbnb and the Louvre announced that they are transforming the famous museum into a hotel, for one night and one time only as a part of a contest. The announcement was made in April but is far from being an April Fools’ joke. The vacation rental service and the museum are providing visitors the chance to stay in arguably the most famous museum in the world. It is a change to sleepover with the Mona Lisa.
Two people will have the chance to spend the night inside a ‘mini pyramid’ within the museum, enjoy a private tour of Mona Lisa, an extravagant dinner in a pop-up dining room and an acoustic concert in Napoleon’s lavish apartments. Fall asleep knowing you’re surrounded by some of the world’s priceless artworks.
Anne-Laure Béatrix, deputy managing director of the Louvre, said in a statement, “We know that many people would love the opportunity to wander alone at night through the Louvre and we want this to be a magical and unforgettable experience”.
To enter, you have to answer one question: “Why would you be the Mona Lisa’s perfect guest?” People can answer the contest by visiting the site airbnb.com/louvre before April 12. On April 30, the winning duo will make their way to the museum where they will be greeted by an art-historian who will take them on a bespoke tour. Previously Obamas, Beyoncé and Jay-Z were taken for the tour.
They will enjoy a toast in front of the Mona Lisa with a cosy Renaissance-inspired aperitif while relaxing on a sumptuous Parisian lounge sofa, while listening to the atmospheric sounds of French music on vinyl records.
Venus de Milo, the Greek goddess of love and beauty, will then “host” an extravagant feast in a pop-up dining room.
Guests will be treated to an intimate acoustic concert in Napoleon III’s lavish apartments. The winners will retire to their bedroom under the Pyramid and Parisian stars for what promises to be a masterpiece of a sleepover.
