Airlines awarding miles for Harvey relief donations

American AirlinesTwo of the world’s leading airlines, United and American have started offering air travellers miles in exchange for the relief donations of Hurricane Harvey.


United Airlines has sent a notice to customers urging them to support the airline’s humanitarian and disaster relief partners Greater Houston Community Foundation, OperationUSA, Americares, American Red Cross and Airlink.


United is awarding 250 miles for donations of $50 to $99,500 for donations of $10 to #249 and 1,000 miles for donations of about 250 or more.


It mentioned that it has set aside up to 3 million miles for MileagePlus members contributing to the above organizations by 15th September. United would be matching the first $200,000 in contributions.


And, American Airlines has decided to offer 10 AAdvantage miles for every dollar customers donate to the American Red Cross through 24th September as long as the amount donated is more than $25.


AAdvantage members making a minimum $25 contribution to disaster relief programs through 24th September would be able to earn 10 miles for every dollar donated.


The mileage would be appearing on mileage statements within 30 days of donations being made.
