On 9th September, the quite well-known Mbombela Jazz Festival will take place. Organized by the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency’s (MTPA), this live entertainment event will be hosted in Mbombela Stadium.
Last week, the names of two of the biggest stars like Zimbabwean superstar Oliver Mtukudzi and South African pianist Don Laka, have been known to public. They share their stage with the young singer-songwriter, 22-year-old Amanda Benedicta Antony, who is also known as Amanda Black. Amanda was born and brought up in the Eastern Cape in Mthatha.
All though her childhood, Amanda moved around a lot which makes her a true child of the soil. For some time, she lived in the Eastern Cape and Johannesburg. As she came in contact with different ways of life, her music turned out to be a result of her varied exposure. She attended a number of primary and high schools and matriculated from Kabega Christian School in Port Elizabeth in 2011.
Later, from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Amanda took up a course in music studies. She remembers her mother insisting on her further studies and the obvious part was of course to pursue her greatest passion. In 2015, she graduated with a diploma in music education.
It’s been only a year or so now that she entered the music scene and she has already grabbed five nominations in this year’s South African Music Awards (Samas) at the Superbowl, Sun City in North West. She won four of the five awards for which she had been nominated for, making her fans thrilled!
