The aircraft had to be diverted to Raleigh-Durham International Airport on account of a strong electrical smell on board the flight, as per the official account of Andrew Sawyer who is a spokesperson of RDU. After landing, the cabin crew had requested for medical assistance for nine people on the plane.
Three of the crew members were rushed to area hospitals and six more were checked out on scene.
However, they were refused to be offered further treatment. It is yet to be clear as to how many passengers were on board the flight. The plane had left Charlotte a little after 4 p.m.
In a statement that was released on Friday evening, American Airlines stated that a mechanical issue had prompted the emergency landing of flight 1889 of the airliner. It was diverted to Raleigh-Durham due to the problem. Finally, the flight was able to make a perfectly safe landing at 5.01 p.m. Presently, maintenance is evaluating the aircraft that is an Airbus 320.
It also mentioned an apology to their passengers for the inconvenience.
After 11 p.m., the airplane continued to be at RDU for undergoing investigation. Thereafter, American arranged for an alternative aircraft for those passengers.
